Every summer as far back as anyone can remember there has been horseback riding programs at Camp Ketcha. Our goal is to be the best place for your child to be introduced to the wonders of riding and the lessons that our horses can teach about responsibility, confidence and caring. We specialize in the younger timid riders who are having their first experience with these majestic animals. We have a child centered focus on safety, proper animal care and developing basic riding skills. Rather than just jumping a fully tacked horse we try to give the campers a full experience on what goes into not only riding horse but also caring for horse and supporting their friends as they learn skills, face challenges and mater basic riding techniques. We aim to create a supportive and enthusiastic group of campers who leave with a love of these animals, having made new friends and understand that riding is much more than jumping in the saddle. We hope to avoid an uninformed request by a child who might say “mom/dad buy me a horse”. Once they come through our program they will know what goes into complete horse care.
We offer shortened Mini camps as the summer starts and winds down June 17 to 21 and August 26-30 – These programs begin at the main camp upper field and spend the day at the barn with the exception of a swim session each day.
During our summer camp weeks we offer half day horsemanship in the morning or afternoon mixed in with traditional camp activities during the other half of the camp day. Time at the barn is the priority and we endeavor to get each child riding each day in addition to multiple different farm related activities and of course chores.
